GREGG BINKLEY'S characterization of Barney Fife first became popular at Ed Debevics,
the Beverly Hills restaurant. For three years he patrolled
he 50's diner, keeping the peace, and using his body as a lethal
weapon when necessary.
One evening,
Rick Dees spotted him, and decided to make him a weekly regular
on his latenight show on ABC, Into the Night. Binkley's performance
as the show's security guard earned him the New York Times distinction
as the "best bit on the show." He was then discovered
by the company that sells the Andy Griffith Show video tapes, United
American Video, and was hired to work at their conventions. Once
seen there, other companies (like Walmart) hired him for their meetings,
and this unique form of corporate entertainment was started. He
has subsequently worked for companies in New York City, Las Vegas,
Phoenix, San Diego, Knoxville, San Francisco, and Chicago.
In addition
to playing Barney Fife, Binkley has also made a name for himself
in Hollywood for his acting roles in film and television. He had
the starring lead role in Revenge of the Nerds III, and as Harold
Skolnick in The Next Generation (the nephew of Lewis Skolnick, played
by Robert Carridine). While he is noted for his comedic roles on
shows like Full House, Out of this World, and Head of the Class,
he has also played dramatic roles on Murder She Wrote, Quantum Leap
and Civil Wars.
Binkley is a
native of Topeka, Kansas, graduated from the University of Kansas
with a degree n Journalism. He currently lives in Sherman Oaks,
California.
That's
what Gregg Binkley's Barney Fife can do for you at your next event.
This veteran performer from ABC's "Into The Night" does
more than just look the part-he acts the part and is able to sustain
it, plus entertain improvisationally with crowds of any type and
size. He can serve as an usher, infiltrate a cocktail hour meet
& greet, escort convention attendees to your client's booth,
humorously work the bar (with a bonafide bartender, of course),
volunteer to be your speaker's bodyguard, present awards, or keep
the peace with a badge on his chest and a bullet in his pocket.
He's worked for Wal-Mart, United American Video, and N.A.P.T.E.,
to name but a few.
