| In a world where high-fashion, botox and intense scrutiny to be the "perfect" wife... mom... woman, Debi Gutierrez bursts into the limelight with a relatable sharp wit, energy and realism that makes it OK to be human again. Her unique combination of observational humor, experience, and sincerity leads her audience on a hilarious journey through the ups and downs of parenting and relationships that strikes a cord of truth we can all laugh at.
While entertaining some of the toughest audiences—as a high school teacher—Debi discovered that humor was one of her most effective teaching tools. She opened the world of English Literature to her students and was repeatedly voted "Favorite Teacher of the Year".
During that period, Debi went through a divorce and found herself as a single working mother. She got together with other moms once a week for coffee and vented while the kids played. Her "mommy-isms" had her friends cracking up. With their encouragement she pursued her dream of being a stand-up comedienne. She quickly became an audience favorite throughout the country...talking about being a single working mom with two children, her parents and the ex-husband (affectionately referred to as "The Plaintiff").
As her career started to blossom, so did her love life and Debi re-married. She had another baby with the "new and improved" husband and continues to delight audience members with her tales of being a wife and a new mommy all over again. Debi and Travis have successfully moved Anna Maria into her college dorm, regularly deal with the high school madness that encircles Jonathan, and live in constant "8-year-old" commotion in suburbia with Pilar.
In just twelve years she’s gone from teacher to international performer and is a regular at premiere comedy clubs in Los Angeles and around the country. Debi has appeared on Lifetime, Showtime, HBO, as the Ebay Girl, on Malcolm and Eddie, ABC’s Laughin’ Out Loud and much more! She was featured in the Just for Laughs – New Faces Show in Montreal. While there, she met Rob Reiner who told her she would some day be a star and before she knew it, Castlerock was signing her into a deal at NBC.
Just two years ago, Debi was named host of the groundbreaking daily parenting show, A Place Of Our Own, at KCET. On set, she comfortably navigates through topics and discussions in a natural yet structured way that allows her guests to comfortably be real and share their views and experience. The show and its sister series, Los Ninos En Su Casa, have quickly snapped up three prestigious awards that include an Emmy, a National Peabody Award and The Parents’ Choice Award for 2005. The show was also nominated for an Emmy in 2008.
Whether she's carting the kids to the grocery store, delivering Avon, performing stand-up comedy, or hosting her talk show (A Place Of Our Own), one thing remains true of Debi, she is an All America Mom... but with a twist!
