| Debi Gutierrez is not your ordinary wife, mommy and homemaker.
She is also one of funniest rising stand-ups in the Latino community,
establishing national recognition with her television appearances
as the beloved, 'tell-it-like-it-is mommy comedienne." Debi
has found that her humorous stories about mommy-hood not only
cross the color barrier but with her performance at the Just
for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, the international borders
as well.
While entertaining some of the toughest audiences - as a high
school teacher - Debi discovered that humor was one of her most
effective teaching tools. She opened the world of English Literature
to her students and was repeatedly voted "Teacher of the Year."
During that time, Debi went through a divorce and found herself
in a very common place-- the single working mother. While at
her weekly "coffee and venting" session with other moms, Debi's
act started to take form as her "mommy-isms" made her friends
crack-up. With their encouragement she pursued her dream of
being a standup comic.
She quickly became an audience favorite throughout the country
by sharing her stories of being a single working mom with two
children, parents that are still married and an ex-husband who
is affectionately referred to as "The Plaintiff."
In five short years, she's gone from teacher to international
performer. Debi has appeared in various specials for Lifetime
and Showtime as well as ABC's Laughin' Out Loud and ABC's Carol
and Marilyn Show. One of her first performances was featured
in the Just for Laughs - New Faces Show in Montreal and this
year will mark her second appearance at the Latino Laugh Festival
in San Antonio. Debi can also be seen weekly at premiere comedy
clubs in Los Angeles.
As her career blossomed, so did her love life-- and Debi re-married.
She recently had a baby with the "new and improved" husband
and continues to delight audiences with her tales of being a
newlywed and a new mommy all over again. Debi and Travis live
in suburbia with the three best comedic inspirations in the
business... Ann-Maria (13), Jonathan (9) and Pilar Isabella
(1).
