| CAROL
LEIFER (pronounced lee-fer) is an acclaimed Stand-Up comedian,
writer, and producer who has paved a variety of paths in a field
where not many female comedians have ventured. The Long Island
native began her Stand-Up career in the late 1970's, performing
at such well-known New York comedy clubs as The Comic Strip, Catch
a Rising Star, and The Improv. Her big break came
when David Letterman unexpectedly showed up at the Comic Strip
and caught one of her performances. His visit led to twenty-five
appearances on NBCs Late Night with David Letterman. In
addition, Letterman also produced Carols 1988 Cinemax special
Carol Doesnt Leifer Anymore.
Carol spent
three years as a writer for Seinfeld and eventually served as
the shows producer. The most notable episodes she wrote
include The Rye and The Lip Reader starring
Marlee Matlin. Her outstanding work on the show led to both
Writers Guild and Emmy Award nominations. Following that,
Carol served as a writer and supervising producer on HBOs
critically acclaimed, The Larry Sanders Show. Recently, she
penned pilots under deals with both Brad Grey Television and
Big Ticket TV. In 2003, Carol returned to her stand-up roots
and starred in her own Comedy Central special. She also served
as the Executive Producer of Ellen DeGeneres show Ellen
Again and as Co-Executive Producer of the Dreamworks/ABC series
Its Like, You Know. Previously, Carol starred in and executive
produced the WB sitcom, Alright Already.
Carol has
written, produced and starred in three specials for Showtime:
Carol Leifer Comedy Cruise (1989), Really Big Shoo (1990), Gaudy,
and Bawdy And Blue (1992), which was nominated for three cable
ACE Awards. She also appeared in HBOs Young Comedian Special
and The Rodney Dangerfield Special. One of Carols greatest
career dreams came true when she appeared with Johnny Carson
on The Tonight Show, two months prior to his retirement. She
went on to be a frequent guest star on the show and has also
appeared on numerous other shows including Dr. Katz, Politically
Incorrect with Bill Maher, and Late Night with Conan OBrien.
Her hosting duties have included four seasons of A&Es
Carolines Comedy Hour and guest stints on Talk Soup and
Later.
Carol has
remained a fixture on the Stand-Up circuit. Ive
played every two-bit laugh shack across this great country of
ours, she quips. One highlight of her road work includes
opening for Frank Sinatra in Las Vegas. He was quoted after
the show as saying, I wish my mother had been that funny
-- I wouldnt have had to work so hard.
