| When Carlos Mencia appeared on Buscando Estrellas,
the Spanish version of Star Search, his set brought down
the house, earning him the title of International Comedy Grand
Champion.
This led to successive guest spots on several television shows,
including FOX's In Living Color, The Arsenio Hall
Show, A&E's An Evening at the Improv and The Paul
Rodriguez Show.
In 1993, Carlos served as host of KTLA-TV's showcase series, Comedy Compadres. Other television credits include hosting
HBO's series, Loco Slam, a critically-lauded performance
on Comic Relief VI, repeat spots on Comedy Showcase,
and two solo HBO Comedy Half-Hours.
He was nominated for a CableACE award for Best Stand-up Comedy
Special, guest-hosted NBC's Later, and received a standing
ovation for his Tonight Show debut. Carlos was also a host of
the Midnight Madness shows at the 1998 Latino Laugh Festival
in San Antonio, Texas.
Carlos was selected to host Funny Is Funny!, SiTV's innovative,
new weekly series spotlighting the nation's best Latino comedians
in English. He currently hosts his own show, Mind of Mencia,
on Comedy Central.
He aims to serve as a role model to youth as his popularity
increases. "I grew up in the projects and I know how important
it is for kids to have hope. I want them to look at me and say,
'Man, I could do that.'" And, though the concept of laughter
as a unifying force is not uncommon, Carlos Mencia is taking
action to make it a reality in daily life.
