| "Everyone
had an invisible playmate when they were young, but mine used
to talk back ... and everyone else was able to hear him."
The ranting of a mad child? Not at all. These are the words of
Brad Cummings when asked to describe his early fascination with
ventriloquism. A fascination that would lead him to become one
of today's most successful and innovative ventriloquists.
While
menopause and "mid-life malaise" may be the topics du
jour of stand-up comics and theatrical productions currently targeting
the aging baby-boomer market, 3 Blacque Chix promise that the
only hot flashes experienced in Herotique-Aahh, their taboo-busting,
"naughty" sexual celebration of women over 40, would
be the result of an unforeseen wardrobe malfunction!
"The Ex-Stepford Wife," Lady M, is played by Mariann
Aalda, who launched her career in improvisational and sketch comedy
with The Proposition and Off-Centre Theater troupes in N.Y.C.
Series-regular TV credits include the CBS sitcom, The Royal Family
-- as the daughter of Redd Foxx and Della Reese; HBO?Ts First
& 10 -- opposite O.J. Simpson for three seasons as his beleaguered
wife; four years as DiDi Bannister on the ABC soap opera, Edge
of Night, and a memorable re-curring role on Designing Women as
Anthony?Ts "yuppie-from-hell" girlfriend, Lita Ford.
She also writes a humor-infused "ethnic etiquette" advice
column with Karen Greyson, with whom does the lecture/motivational
circuit as one of the "Divas of Diversity."
"The Dominatrix," Lady L, is played by Lola Love, who
spent more than a decade traveling the world as a featured performer
with "Godfather of Soul," James Brown, and is profiled
in the documentary, When We Were Kings. Herotique-Aahh?marks her
return to the stage after almost two decades spent as an entertainment
industry "suit" -- as an entertainment consultant, record
producer, and a talent manager whose clients include her son,
Kenn Blank (now Kenn Michael) who starred in the TV hit series,
The Parent ?~Hood as a child actor and is now a well-respected
film and music video director-producer.
"The Goddess of Love & Sexual Freedom," Lady I,
is played by Iona Morris, who, in addition to being a series-regular
on The Adventures of Ark for the Discovery Channel, is also: the
original voice of Storm in the X-Men cartoon series; a recipient
of the Hollywood NAACP Image Award for her work in theater; a
writer of several one-women shows, and a well-respected director
-- having directed co-written with Blair Underwood in his hit
one-man show, IM4. She comes by her talent naturally, her father,
Greg Morris, was one of the stars of the hit 70's TV series, Mission
Impossible. "The media would have us believe that a woman
being desirable and having a satisfying sex life after forty was
an impossible mission, too," she says, "but 3 Blacque
Chix prove otherwise!"
As purveyors of sexual liberation and female empowerment, three
women candidly sharing their carnal adventures with a captivated
audience will inevitably draw comparisons to The Vagina Monologues.
However, according to Lady L, "there is no comparison, because
we don't discriminate we celebrate all genitalia equally!?"
Praise ...
"Galvanic performances. The show's biggest assets are the
three chix': Lola Love, Iona Morris and Mariann Aalda who co-created
'Herotique-Aahh.' All post-40, the women look stunning as they
slink, dance and cavort..." - The Los Angeles Times
"Equally motivational cabaret and sensual sermon...a body-
and sex-positive empowerment. Hilarious. - LA Weekly
